Letter #51

This last week we had zone conference.  And those are long.  But I just realized that I only have 4 more of those for the rest of my mission, and that's out of 9 total, so that's more than half way.  The first one or two of those were pretty fun, but now they're just way long, so they're whatever.  They would probably be pretty great if I could stay awake through them.
And then Thursday was a pretty great day.  That was my year mark on the mission, so that was pretty fun.  I celebrated by tracting in the rain.  It was also Kurt Cobain day, so we went to the KC park to pay our respects, and met the photographer from the local paper there.  He was pretty cool.  He talked to us for a little while, and we traded business cards and stuff, so that was pretty fun.  And then Elder Murillo tore his pants, and there was a fire at the apartment buildings that a couple of members live at, and that was pretty much our day.
And for the most part, our week wasn't that exciting.  We had a bunch of people drop appointments, and the only solid people we had coming to church were forgotten about by the members who promised them rides, so pretty average week.
I think my video journal for this week is much more interesting, so I'll try to send that back soon, especially if I get my other SD card back soon.
Cool, sorry this email is so short, but I love you all, bye.

Letter #50

Well, this email is pretty late, because the library was closed on Monday, and we had zone conference ALL day yesterday.  But don't you worry your pretty little minds, because all of Aberdeen with be celebrating Kurt Cobain Day tomorrow, which is also, quite coincidently, my 1-year mark in the mission.
So last week, we had a pretty good time doing missionary things.  Like not celebrating Valentine's Day (that's a lie.  I passed out valentines at District Meeting) and tracting and such.  It didn't snow this week, so that made the wind and the cold that much more tolerable.
Well, this was the second to last zone conference that I will have with President Weaver, so that's a little bit crazy.  It was also the 5th of 9 on my mission, so I'm starting to hit a bunch of things that make me more than halfway done, not the least of which will be my third GC in about a month and a half.
Let's see... Last week was so long ago that I barely remember it.  Also, we are a little over 2 weeks into the transfer, and I just barely got a new planner yesterday, so I can't really go back and see what we did.  Here's a story though:  So in zone conference, we talked about prayer and the book of Mormon a lot (among other things.  These meetings are like 8 hours long), and so when we got back for some tracting, Elder Murillo prayed that we would knock into someone that we could teach the restoration to and give a book of Mormon to, and then we went out, and on the second house we knocked on, we found someone who fit that description.  And then we asked when we could come back, and he said he was flying out to LA this weekend, which is when he would be free next.  Also, he's probably someone that we need to turn over to the Spanish missionaries, even though he speaks good English.  But that was pretty cool anyway.
Oh, and the homeless guy I'm sitting next to at the library right now just asked me if I knew what WTF stood for.  There are a lot of experiences that you miss out on when you don't use public computers.
Okay, well, I hope you are all doing well!  I love you and miss you and all that. Bye

Letter #49

Okay, well this week was pretty wild.  We had snow right here in Aberdeen.  Like, a couple of inches of it.  They almost cancelled church.  They did cancel ward council and Sunday School, because most of the primary/youth teachers didn't show up, and the ones that did were expecting the stake to teach this week, because it was supposed to be ward council.  So we just had sacrament meeting and let everyone go home after that.  People here are not used to the snow, and luckily, we got a bunch of rain the next day to wash out all of the snow that didn't melt.
So my new companion, Elder Murillo, is pretty great.  He's a hard worker and stuff like that, so we've been getting a lot done this last week.  Teaching lessons and knocking doors and such.  He's been pretty excited to move to an urban area.  And it's a lot easier to get stuff done when you have an excited companion.
Transfer meeting was great.  I got a letter from the office, so that defs made it worth the 150 mile round trip.  I think that's the most I've ever driven in one day before.  And then I remembered that I don't like driving.
And there wasn't really anything that noteworthy this week, but it was pretty good in general.  Next week is zone conference, so that's exciting, and the temple trip date was just announced, so that's way exciting.  Love you all.

Letter #48

Okay, so this week was pretty crazy, mostly because of the super bowl.  I guess the Seahawks are kinda a big deal around here.  So everyone's lives were revolving around that game for pretty much the entire week, members and nonmembers alike.
So our car's battery wasn't working at the beginning of this week, so we had to take it into the shop and get a ride to district meeting with the Ocean Shores Elders #firstworldproblems  So that was sad or whatever.  And probably one of the most significant events of the week.  Elder Toomey was pretty sick for most of the week, so we did plenty of sitting around the apartment.  So that was not so much fun.
Oh yeah, transfer calls.  I almost forgot about those.  So I'm staying in Aberdeen and getting a new companion, Elder Murillo.  I don't really know him that well, but he sounds like he's going to be a pretty good companion.
Other than that, we helped some people move, gave some blessings, and not too much else.  We were in lockdown for most of Sunday because of the Super Bowl though.  After church, we pretty much had to go home until the super bowl started, at which point we went to the stake center for a potluck with the zone.  And then we had to play this scripture bowl game that wasn't that much fun.  It was whatever.  I probably would've rather have been tracting, except for everyone would've hated us.  But go Seahawks or whatever.  It's pretty fun for the people around here.  Well transfers happen tomorrow, so I'm super excited to get mail from the office, because this will be the first time in about a month for that.  Anyway, hope you are all doing well!  And I'll talk to you guys later.
